I had been through a lot this 2014. I fell in love, bought a lot of things, paid all my credit card dues, finished my first semester in grad school and now half way through my MBA Degree, broke down, saved money, dated few, bid goodbye to a friend, accepted somebody's farewell, broke down again, applied for a new job, rejected the job offer, experienced quarter life crisis, finally moved on, reacquainted with my past, tried IJP and still waiting, I fell in love again, naduwag, nasaktan ulit, joined comtests like halloween costume and fashion designing, tried to be positive again. There were challenges and triumphs and I must admit it's a colorful one
You? How was your 2014? Have you learned something? Have you discovered another mystery? Have you forgiven all those who wronged you? It's 2015 and let's start the year right!
Time to make a bucket list and lets welcome 2015 with a positive aura!

Reinventing/ Re-engineering an Organization
According to encyclopedia, Organization re-engineering is
the study, capture, and modification of the
internal mechanisms or functionality of existing system-management processes
and practices in an organization in order to reconstitute them in a new form
and with new features, often to take advantage of newly emerged organizational
competitiveness requirements, but without changing the inherent purpose of the
organization itself. It is also known as systems management reengineering.
Organizational
Re-engineering is not about making minor organizational changes here and there.
It involves reviewing every function in the organization and studying processes
and reforming it in a way that it will be more functional, economy-driven and systematic.
Reengineering is a term used to describe the
change of processes with the aim to boost the performance of a business.
According to the definition of Hammer and Champy (1993), "reengineering is
the fundamental rethinking and radical redesign of business processes to
achieve dramatic improvements in critical, contemporary measures of performance
such as cost, quality, service and speed."
This activity involves one or more of the
four common re-engineering challenges listed below, or a special challenge
specific only to particular industry.
1.
Business Strategy Assessment: to evaluate the
degree to which the mission, goals and strategic objectives of your
organization are realistic, attainable and capable of being accomplished.
2.
Change Process: to lead and manage a specific
corporate project to ensure its successful completion, on time, within budget
and functioning correctly. Example of this is Information technology update.
3.
Management Structure: to assess the
appropriateness of divisions of responsibility and authority within the
organization and advance recommend changes for greater efficiency and
effectiveness.
4.
Critical Concern: to help correct or overcome
a particular business challenge (e.g., regulatory, financial, operational) that
is negatively impacting business or represents a significant threat.
Why Managers must think strategically?
We have learned
that all of the organizations have mission, vision and goals that an
organization has set that serve as a clear picture and direction of an
organization. We have regarded that business world is indeed a fast-paced
setting wherein any moment can happen in a just a second. Every organization
needs to be well-positioned in the marketplace because it is considered a
competitive advantage for a profit-business organization and a solid reputation
for non-profit ones.
It cannot be
denied that strategic thinking is a “must” in every organization. It creates a value
by developing and evaluating every decision and action in light of current and
future conditions, the direction where you want to go and results you want to
achieve. It involves generating ideas on how the organization will get “there”.
It gives options that will help the
organization achieve goal more efficiently and effectively.
According to
www.sengaygroup.com, Strategic thinking requires some skills and these are the
following:
The ability to:
· see the big picture
· initiate innovative
ideas
· conceptualize
complexity
· know the right questions
to ask
· think horizontally and
simultaneously
· know when to ask searching
questions
· integrate concepts,
however disparate
· apply lateral thinking to
different situations
· challenge current
processes, practices and strategy
· unearth alternative
approaches, solutions or methods
Having these abilities in
mind, Managers can better come up with efficiency and effectiveness of plans in
connection of organization’s objectives in a particular situation. It helps the
manager to see clear view of potential risks and opportunities in a present
market conditions and perform long-term planning.
Strategic thinking
advantages managers in a way that it generates options and from those options,
managers should decide on how these choices will be effective and put
everything into actions.
